You will visit several archaeological sites of the ancient civilization, the old cities and ports, the gorge of Samaria and Aradena, the islands of Elafonisi with their crystal-clear sea, and virgin beaches.

ANCIENT TARRA ITINERARY
Day 1: Welcome to Chania or Heraklion and transfer to Elafonissi.
Welcome to Chania or Heraklion. Lunch in a typical Crete tavern followed by a stroll around city walls, Hammam baths, the old town port and other famous sights. Transfer to Elafonissi, one of the most beautiful and unspoiled beaches in the world with crystal clear turquoise water. Short snack break and a costal warm-up hike to Palaiochora. Unspoiled nature and wildlife will delight your senses. Short refreshment break on arrival and hotel check-in.
Dinner in a typical tavern. Alternatively, overnight stay in Chania and bus transfer to Elafonissi/Sougia next day, depending on the group’s flight schedule.
Drive: 3 hours. Accommodation: Hotel.
Day 2: Paleochora - Sougia morning hike with beach stops along the way.
Paleochora - Sougia morning hike with 3 beautiful beach stops along the way. A spectacular hike which includes a visit to small secluded villages and numerous unspoiled beaches and archaeological sites - a lovely day to spend admiring the views on the Libyan Sea and meditating/practising mindfulness. Lunch on the beach in Sougia followed by swimming and relaxation. After lunch, either a hike to Tripiti beach with a visit to local castles or a boat transfer to Agia Roumelli. Meeting our lovely hosts Andreas and Sifis and their families who will host us and serve us in the following 5 days.
Trek: 14 Km, 3-4 hours; elevation gain/loss: 500m/500m.
Day 3: Morning boat transfer to Tripiti and hike to Agia Roumelli.
Relaxing breakfast and a boat transfer to Tripiti. Bathing on a beautiful volcanic sandy beach and a stunning hike to Agia Roumelli from level zero to 1300m above sea level. We will see the most beautiful parts of the national park with incredible flora and wild sheep. Picnic time followed by a return to the hotel through one of the most challenging paths around Agia Roumelli. Lovely Dinner with the local hosts accompanied by gorgeous clear blue skies.
Trek: 13 Km, 5-6 hpurs; elevation gain/loss: 1300m/1040m. Accommodation: guesthouse
Day 4: Morning hike via Agia Ioannis and Aradena gorge to Marmara beach.
Morning hike to Agia Pavlos. We will visit a small church right by the sea and spend time with Jorgos and his father who will make us the best Greek mountain tea on the island. Continuing through a pine forest and a climb via a rocky path with a view on the southwest Crete, the southernmost island of Gavdos and sometimes parts of the African continent, depending on the visibility.
Continuing through gorgeous glades to Agis Ioannis where we will take a short snack break in a local tavern. Follows a 15min transfer to Aradena Gorge. The descent through a canyon and arrival on Marmara beach. Short beach break then boat transfer to Agia Roumelli. All meals are included.
Trek: 19 Km, 5-6 hours; elevation gain/loss: 1020m/1068m.
Day 5: Morning hike to Ancient Tarra 3 Castles.
Breakfast then quiet time on the terrace of our lodging house. Morning hike to Ancient Tarra Castles. Fantastic hike with oregano fields on the way to the first castle, enjoying the view on the fort, used to protect the island in ancient times.
Walk to the second fortress on approximately 1300m above sea level where we will have a picnic. Visit the third castle, located on a plateau surrounded by incredible flora that will delight your senses. Slow descent to Agia Roumelli. Visit the beach and dinner with our hosts.
Trek: 8 km, 4-5 hours; elevation gain/loss: 935m/935m.
Day 6: Morning boat transfer to Lutro. Coffee/juice break and a short hike to Marmara beach.
Morning boat transfer to Lutro. Sightseeing of one of the most beautiful towns on the south coast of Crete, meeting the locals and getting to know their culture. Quick shopping break if you want to buy souvenirs. Coffee/juice break in a local tavern and short hike to Marmara beach.
Trek: 18 km, 5-6 hours; elevation gain/loss: 500m/500m.
Day 7: Morning hike to Omalos via Samaria Gorge.
Morning hike to Omalos via Samaria Gorge, a national park and one of the most beautiful gorges in the world. A climb to 1300m above sea level. Surrounded by magical nature with cliffs, pine forests, water streams and creeks. Picture perfect nature. Halfway through, we will sit down for a picnic on one of the beautiful glades. Arrival in Omalos, a small town on top of a hill. Refreshment break in a local tavern and transfer to the hotel. Bus/taxi transfer from Omalos to Chania/Heraklion.
Trek: 16.5 km, 5-6 hours; elevation gain/loss: 1234m/500m. Accommodation: Hotel.
Day 8: Flying home.
After breakfast, our adventure ends with a private transfer to the airport, ending our exciting trek in Crete, Greece. Breakfast included.
Although we try to do our very best to carry out the schedule written above, this itinerary is subject to change for some reasons beyond our control. This is a 8-day trip, however, we can make it even longer.
