TREK BALKAN specializes in small-group adventure holidays through the Balkans. With unrivaled knowledge and experience, we are committed to bringing you high quality, small group trekking experiences in Balkan's most spectacular regions. No other region on earth offers the diversity you'll discover in the Balkans; Kosovo, Albania, North Macedonia, and Montenegro - with spectacular natural sights, challenges, activities, and encounters on some of the world's most colorful cultures and wildlife.
After many years spent in the outdoor adventures, Gonxhe Zeqiri and Adnan Beqiraj, the founders, want to share with other people the love for Nature, for authentic experiences, and for the gorgeous and still most unspoiled countries of the western Balkans.
We believe that the best way to truly experience Balkan’s spectacular mountains is to walk in it. Hereby, our mission is to make every trip an unforgettable experience of your lives.
We specialize in amazing small-group adventure tours to some of the Balkans' most remote places. Our average size is 8; small enough to explore independently, but big enough to meet like-minded trekkers.
Who better than a guide born locally to guarantee you an authentic experience? They know where you’re going better than anyone. As well as what you pay for your holiday should financially benefit local people as much as possible.
All our tours include unique experiences you wouldn't find anywhere. On our trips, you'll see a mix of phenomenal sights and hidden gems of Western Balkans that others miss, or don't even know about.
Best Trek Ever!!!
Adnan far exceeded any expectations we could have had. His communication leading up to the trip was excellent and he took care of the many complex arrangements for transportation and guest houses without fail. He was great fun to be with on the trail, always informative about culture and history. Adnan knew and was obviously thought of affectionately and respectfully by all the guest house and cafe owners that we stopped at along the way. It became apparent that this was because of his personal qualities of honesty and integrity! We have hiked many spectacular trails both within and outside the US and the trail from Theth to Doberdol to Gjeravica was one of the most varied and beautiful. Though challenging in elevation changes the hiking was made much more pleasant by leisurely stops at the mountain cafes along the trail where beer coffee and food were available.
Walking with Adnan through the accursed mountains was an experience, that I didn't expect in the way it was. Because visiting this area is still an insider tip, it's possible to really EXPLORE. Adnan knows a lot about the area and he shares his knowledge. And I will never forget his 1/2 litre bottle of honey, that became lighter every walking day and was empty after 10 days of walking.
The Albanian Alps are a beautiful and at times demanding a range of mountains that give back far more than they take. To gain full advantage you need someone who not only knows the terrain and footpaths but who understands the character and soul of the mountains and the people. Who understands the moods and customs and speaks the language not just literally but emotionally. Adnan is such a person an excellent guide who is friends with everyone who knows the ground and the people. Someone who can then translate the people and the mountains so that you feel part of the area and feel welcome.
Adnan is a great guy. He is trustworthy and competent, cheerful and communicative, one of the best guides I have ever met. A true expert in his field. I did The Peaks of the Balkans tour two years in a row 2017/2018 and I was extremely satisfied. The tours offered by Adnan and his team are simply fantastic and worth every penny. Enjoy your time with Trek Balkan.
We had an amazing time with Gonxhe and Adnan. It was really easy to make contact and as we got closer to the meet up we were in touch regularly. We weren't quite sure what we wanted but the team came up with a perfect itinerary for us. We were collected in Tirana and driven to Theth (passing a restaurant with a beautiful view in Shkoder). The last section of the road trip was quite exhilarating and I'm glad I wasn't driving! On our first full day, we hiked around Theth which gave us a chance to really absorb the beauty of the area (and some of the many waterfalls). On the second day, we hiked the Valbona pass. It was quite demanding but totally worth it. The views from the top were stunning. The next day we walked around Valbona. The plan had been for something a bit more demanding but Gonxhe was brilliant and found us something a bit more gentle on our muscles when we asked for it. The next day we had a trip down lake Koman and up to one of its tributaries, Shala River. I couldn't believe how few tourists were there considering just how beautiful the area is.
Thank you so much.
